THE SERIES: NJCU leads 8-0 (Goal differential: 46-8, NJCU)

LAST MEETING: The last scheduled game against Medgar Evers was cancelled on September 14, 2011. The last meeting was October 11, 2010 in Jersey City, NJ. NJCU won 6-1, with four of those goals coming in the second half within a 10-minute span. Medgar Evers was outshot 45-6 and 10-3 with shots on goal. The Gothic Knights were up 2-0 at halftime.

SETTING THE TABLE: NJCU plays its 2014 home opener today. It will the Knights' first game in 8 days.

LAST TIME OUT:  On August 31, NJCU tied the College of Staten Island, 1-1, in double overtime in Staten Island, NY on the second  day of the CSI Soccer Fall Classic. It was a very balanced matchup, with both teams ending the game with 12 shots. With the game being scoreless in the first half, both teams scored a goal in the early stages of the second half. Laura Bustamante scored the tying goal from Jubeth Buitrago, who sent in a through ball from their own half on a free kick. 

BUSTAMANTE'S AWARD-WINNING DEBUT: Laura Bustamante, the first-ever ECAC Division III Metro Rookie of the Week and the season's first New Jersey Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, won both awards for the week of September 1 after amassing three points (one goal, one assist) in the CSI Classic. She also had an assist against John Jay in a 3-0 win, where she setup Amanda Filippone on an indirect kick in the second minute of the game. She already has a total of six shots on goal in just two games this season. 

WELCOME THE 2014 GOTHIC KNIGHTS: There are a lot of new faces on the 2014 club with only seven returning letter-winners from 2013. There are 10 new players, six of them being freshmen Laura BustamanteMadison CastellanosClaudia GomezChristina MajetteMudindia Saint Jean Orphise Saint JeanCatarina TeodosioAlicia Umanzor
and Kalicia Walker to the program.

COUGAR NOTES: Medgar Evers is playing its first game of the season and looking to improve from last year. In 16 games last season, the Cougars (0-16) scored only one goal, which was scored by Sciancia Metelus, who was just a freshman and is returning this season. The Cougars have dropped 31 straight games after also going 0-15 in 2012. MEC did not field a team in 2011.
